The Beginning of a New Era: WordPress 7.0 Released with Major AI News

The popular content management platform WordPress has officially released version 7.0, named “Armstrong” in honor of the legendary jazz musician Louis Armstrong. This is one of the biggest updates in recent years, bringing artificial intelligence support, a redesigned admin interface, and a wealth of new tools for web developers and content creators.

According to developers, WordPress 7.0 marks the beginning of a new era where AI becomes a natural part of website creation and management. The update features a new central AI system through which websites can connect to generative AI models. Additionally, the new AI interface allows the use of various automated tools directly within the admin panel.

For instance, users can utilize AI to generate images, create headlines and excerpts for articles, and automatically provide ALT text for images. A new “Abilities API” has also been introduced, allowing plugin developers to integrate AI-driven features and workflows into websites.

New Admin Interface and Dashboard

In addition to artificial intelligence, the WordPress administration view has received a comprehensive overhaul. Version 7.0 introduces a more modern design, a new color scheme, and smoother animations and transitions between different management views.

The update also adds a new “Command Palette” feature, which can be opened using the shortcut Ctrl+K or ⌘K. Through this, users can quickly navigate between various tools and settings.

Font management has also been significantly improved. Fonts can now be installed, uploaded, and managed from a single central view, with support available for both classic and block-based themes.

New Blocks and Design Capabilities

WordPress 7.0 brings several new blocks and design options. These include:

  • a new Breadcrumbs block,
  • an enhanced gallery block with a lightbox slideshow,
  • a new icons block,
  • and an upgraded menu overlay system.

Responsive design tools have also been updated. Site administrators can now set separate styles for different devices and hide or display blocks depending on the screen size.

Furthermore, the new version allows custom CSS code to be added directly to individual blocks without the need for additional plugins.

More Opportunities for Developers

For developers, the new version includes several major upgrades. For example, blocks and patterns can now be created directly on the server side using PHP, and they will be automatically registered through the block system.

The Site Editor has also become more flexible, with new routing and extensibility options added to it.

The AI Direction Continues

While previous versions—WordPress 6.9.2, 6.9.3, and 6.9.4—focused primarily on security fixes, WordPress 7.0 clearly demonstrates that the platform’s next major developmental direction is tied to artificial intelligence and automation.

According to developers, the new version lays the foundation for a future where AI tools become a standard part of web development and content creation.
